For this software platform provider, moving their servers from their headquarters to Dulles, VA was a big undertaking. MicroStrategy was concerned about the relocation for a good reason: the 550 servers being moved were valued at over $20 million! With this in mind, we took every precaution. As a top commercial moving company in Washington DC, our move planners met with MicroStrategy several times prior to move day, including, per their request, a demonstration and dry run of how we would complete the project.
The move took place in three phases over three consecutive weekends. The crew worked overnight, from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM, to ensure minimal interruptions. Olympia Office Movers un-racked, transported, and re-racked each server. We wrapped the servers in anti-static packing material and moved them in cushioned commercial bins. The servers were then driven to their new location in our air ride trucks.
From their experience, MicroStrategy estimated prior to the move that 6-8% of the servers would not function after the relocation. They were impressed when they reported that thanks to our care, 97% of relocated servers worked in great order!
